ACUPUNCTURE AND DRY NEEDLING

ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is a treatment based on the principles of traditional Chinese medicine where the physical, emotional and mental states are seen as interdependent. It is a method of preventing and treating disease, illness, injury or pain by allowing the body to heal naturally and to improve its functions so as to restore the body's equilibrium because such illness is regarded as a sign that the body is out of balance. This healing is accomplished by stimulating biologically significant points of the body. There are more than 400 acupuncture points that connect to 14 channels through which it is said that Qi (energy) flows. The exact pattern and degree of imbalance is unique to each individual. The skill therefore lies in identifying the precise nature of the underlying disharmony and selecting the most effective treatment. The choice of acupuncture points will be specific to each person's needs.

The initial acupuncture session is likely to involve an assessment of general health, a medical history and a physical examination. The acupuncturist may recommend dietary or nutritional changes.

Most acupuncture sessions last between 20 and 40 minutes. Courses of treatment often involve up to 6-8 separate sessions.
