Dermaplaning Facial in London
A precise, manual exfoliation facial that removes fine vellus hair (“peach fuzz”) and built-up dead skin cells for instantly smoother, makeup-ready skin. Dermaplaning at Santi is performed by trained therapists using sterile blades in a controlled, clinical setting.
What is dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a form of manual exfoliation that uses a sterile, single-use surgical blade to gently skim away the outermost layer of dead skin cells along with fine vellus hair. There is no downtime, no chemicals, and no peeling — just immediate smoothness and luminosity.
At Santi, dermaplaning is carried out as a dedicated facial treatment, often combined with hydrating masks, gentle peels or LED to enhance results while keeping the barrier calm and supported.
What you can expect from a Santi dermaplaning facial
- Instantly smoother texture and softer-looking fine lines.
- Better light reflection — skin looks fresher and more even.
- Improved penetration of serums, peels and masks applied afterwards.
- Makeup sits beautifully without catching on dry patches or peach fuzz.
Who is dermaplaning suitable for?
Dermaplaning is suitable for most skin types looking for gentle but effective exfoliation and instant glow. It is particularly popular if you:
- Notice makeup sitting unevenly due to dryness or peach fuzz.
- Have a generally dull or lacklustre complexion.
- Prefer to avoid chemical exfoliants or are pregnant / breastfeeding.
- Want a non-invasive “event-ready” treatment with no downtime.
When we may recommend alternatives
We will assess your skin in clinic and may postpone or adapt dermaplaning if you have:
- Active, inflamed acne or pustules in the treatment area.
- Very reactive or compromised skin (for example, an active flare of eczema, dermatitis or psoriasis on the face).
- Open cuts, cold sores or recent sunburn.
- Very recent strong peels, laser resurfacing or use of certain prescription treatments.
In these cases, we can advise on an alternative facial or a staged plan that keeps your barrier safe.
Before & after your dermaplaning facial
A little preparation — and the right aftercare — helps you get the most from your treatment while protecting your skin barrier.
How to prepare
- Avoid other facial hair removal (waxing, threading, depilatory creams) on the face for 5–7 days beforehand.
- Pause exfoliating acids (AHA/BHA) and retinol / retinoids for 3–5 days before treatment, unless advised otherwise by your practitioner.
- Let us know about any recent laser, strong peels or new prescription skincare.
- Try to avoid deliberate tanning and always arrive wearing SPF rather than heavy makeup if possible.
Looking after your skin afterwards
- Expect mild pinkness for a few hours — this usually settles quickly.
- Avoid saunas, steam rooms, very hot showers and intense exercise for 24 hours.
- Use a gentle cleanser, bland hydrating products and avoid exfoliating acids and retinoids for 3–5 days.
- Skip facial waxing or threading for at least a week after treatment.
- Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30–50 daily and avoid direct sun exposure while the skin is settling.
- If you are combining with peels or LED, follow the specific advice given in clinic.
Dermaplaning FAQs
Does dermaplaning hurt?
Most people find dermaplaning surprisingly comfortable. You may feel light “scraping” and gentle pressure, but it should not be painful. If you feel any discomfort, let your therapist know and they will adjust their technique.
Will my hair grow back thicker or darker?
No — dermaplaning does not change the nature of the hair follicle. Vellus hair grows back at the same thickness and colour. You may simply notice it more as it returns because your skin has been very smooth immediately after treatment.
How often should I have a dermaplaning facial?
Most clients choose to repeat dermaplaning every 4–6 weeks, in line with the skin’s natural renewal cycle. Your therapist can recommend a schedule based on your skin type and other treatments you may be having at Santi.
Can dermaplaning be combined with chemical peels or LED?
Yes. In fact, dermaplaning is often used as a priming step before gentle peels and LED light therapy to enhance penetration and glow. We will always tailor the strength of any peel and the choice of LED protocol to your skin on the day.
Is there any downtime?
There is usually no significant downtime. Mild redness or warmth is common for a few hours, and your skin may feel more product-sensitive for a couple of days. Following the aftercare guidance — particularly SPF and avoiding strong actives — keeps downtime minimal.
Can I have dermaplaning if I have acne?
If you have occasional, non-inflamed breakouts, dermaplaning may still be suitable. However, we usually avoid treating areas with active, inflamed acne as the blade can irritate or spread bacteria. In this case we may recommend an alternative facial or a staged plan.
