Lymphatic Massage

A gentle, rhythmic massage for clients who prefer a lighter-touch treatment focused on relaxation, comfort and the feeling of post-travel or everyday heaviness.

This is Santi’s wellness lymphatic massage. It is distinct from our specialist Medical Lymphatic Massage for post-surgical care.

A lighter style of massage

What is lymphatic massage?

Lymphatic massage uses gentle, repetitive and rhythmic movements rather than deep muscular pressure.

The lymphatic system forms part of the body’s normal fluid balance and immune function. A wellness lymphatic massage is designed to work lightly and comfortably with superficial tissues rather than trying to “flush toxins” or force fluid through the body.

Many clients choose it because they want a calming treatment, feel heavy or puffy after travel, or simply prefer a gentler alternative to Swedish or Deep Tissue massage.

What it is not: lymphatic massage is not a “detox”, a weight-loss treatment or a treatment that removes toxins from the body.
Who chooses it?

When might a lymphatic massage suit you?

After travel

Long periods of sitting can leave the body feeling heavy or puffy. A gentle lymphatic-style massage can be a comfortable post-travel option where you otherwise feel well.

A lighter-touch treatment

Some clients simply do not enjoy deep pressure. Lymphatic massage provides a slower, softer alternative.

Relaxation

The repetitive, low-pressure technique can be deeply relaxing and is well suited to clients who want a quieter wellness treatment.

Everyday puffiness

The treatment may help the body feel lighter where mild, non-medical puffiness or heaviness is present.

Between busy periods

Many clients use it as a regular maintenance treatment when they want something gentle rather than muscular or corrective.

Alongside other wellness care

It can sit comfortably alongside a wider wellness routine where no medical lymphatic condition is being treated.

Realistic expectations

What can lymphatic massage reasonably do?

It may help with

  • Relaxation
  • A feeling of lightness after prolonged sitting
  • Mild everyday puffiness
  • Gentle post-travel recovery
  • Clients who prefer very light pressure

It does not

  • “Detox” the body
  • Remove fat
  • Increase metabolism in a clinically meaningful way
  • Prevent colds or illness
  • Treat medical lymphoedema without specialist assessment
  • Replace medical care for unexplained swelling
An important distinction

Wellness lymphatic massage vs Medical Lymphatic Massage

Wellness Lymphatic Massage

This page describes a gentle spa/wellness treatment for relaxation, mild puffiness, travel heaviness and clients who prefer lighter pressure.

It is not intended as specialist post-operative rehabilitation or treatment for diagnosed lymphatic disease.

Medical Lymphatic Massage

Our Medical Lymphatic Massage is the appropriate pathway for post-surgical clients or cases where treatment is being coordinated with surgical or medical recovery.

That service uses a more clinically directed approach and should be booked separately.

If you have had recent surgery, significant swelling, or have been specifically advised to receive post-operative lymphatic drainage, please book the Medical Lymphatic Massage rather than this wellness treatment.
The technique

What does lymphatic massage feel like?

Very light pressure

This is deliberately not a deep-tissue treatment. The movements are gentle and superficial.

Slow rhythm

The therapist uses repeated, flowing movements rather than strong kneading or pressure.

Quiet pace

The overall treatment is slower and calmer than many conventional massage styles.

Your treatment

What happens during the massage?

Step 01

Brief consultation

We ask why you are booking, how you feel on the day and whether there are any medical reasons why treatment should be modified or postponed.

Step 02

Gentle rhythmic massage

Your therapist uses light, repetitive movements across selected areas of the body according to your treatment goals and comfort.

Step 03

Relaxed finish

The treatment ends gently, with time to get up slowly and leave feeling calm rather than overstimulated.

After flying

Lymphatic massage after travel

Long-haul travel can leave the legs and body feeling heavy after many hours of sitting.

A gentle lymphatic-style massage can be an appropriate wellness option after travel if you otherwise feel well.

Important: new one-sided leg swelling, calf pain, unusual warmth or redness, chest pain or unexplained breathlessness after a flight should be medically assessed rather than treated as ordinary post-travel puffiness.
Pregnancy

Can I have lymphatic massage while pregnant?

Massage during pregnancy should be adapted to the stage of pregnancy, comfort and individual medical circumstances.

For routine pregnancy massage

If your main aim is relaxation, muscular comfort or pregnancy-specific positioning, our dedicated Pregnancy Massage is usually the better choice.

If swelling is significant

New, marked or sudden swelling during pregnancy should not simply be treated as a massage issue. Appropriate maternity or medical assessment may be needed first.

Suitability

When should lymphatic massage be postponed?

Please tell us before treatment if you have:

  • Recent surgery
  • Known lymphatic or vascular disease
  • Active cancer or complex medical conditions
  • Heart, kidney or circulatory conditions
  • Significant or unexplained swelling
  • Current infection or fever

Medical clearance may be appropriate

Where there is a significant medical condition, current cancer treatment, diagnosed lymphoedema or complex swelling, suitability should be discussed with the relevant healthcare team before booking a wellness massage.

After your massage

What should I do afterwards?

Hydrate normally

Drink according to thirst and your usual routine. There is no need to force excessive amounts of water.

Move gently

A walk or light movement can be a pleasant way to continue the relaxed feeling after treatment.

Keep the day simple

Most people can return to normal daily activity immediately after a wellness lymphatic massage.

Questions

Lymphatic Massage FAQs

What is lymphatic massage?

It is a gentle, rhythmic form of massage using light superficial movements. At Santi, this page refers to the wellness version of the treatment rather than specialist medical or post-surgical drainage.

Is lymphatic massage a detox?

No. The body already has organs and physiological systems responsible for processing and eliminating waste. We do not market lymphatic massage as a way of “removing toxins”.

Does lymphatic massage help with bloating or puffiness?

Some clients report feeling lighter or less puffy after a gentle lymphatic-style massage, but significant or unexplained swelling should be medically assessed.

Is it painful?

No strong pressure is intended. The technique is generally much lighter than Swedish, Sports or Deep Tissue massage.

Is it the same as post-surgical lymphatic drainage?

No. Post-surgical care is a separate specialist service at Santi. If you have recently had surgery, please book our Medical Lymphatic Massage.

How often can I have lymphatic massage?

For general wellness there is no universal schedule. Some clients book occasionally, while others prefer a regular maintenance course. The frequency can be adjusted according to preference and suitability.

Can I have lymphatic massage after a flight?

Yes, if you otherwise feel well. However, new one-sided leg swelling, calf pain, chest pain or unexplained breathlessness after prolonged travel should be medically assessed rather than massaged.

Can I have it while pregnant?

Pregnancy-specific massage is usually the better route for routine pregnancy comfort. Significant or sudden swelling during pregnancy should be medically assessed before massage.

Will it help cellulite?

Massage may temporarily alter the appearance or feel of tissues, but lymphatic massage should not be presented as a treatment that removes cellulite.
