BIOEFFECT EGF is different from our more exfoliation-led or technology-led facials. The emphasis is on gentle skin preparation, EGF skincare, massage, hydration and red LED within a relaxed 90-minute treatment.

What is BIOEFFECT EGF skincare?
EGF stands for Epidermal Growth Factor, a naturally occurring signalling protein found in the body. BIOEFFECT uses a plant-produced analogue made in barley as an ingredient in its skincare formulations.
In the Santi facial, we use BIOEFFECT products as part of a complete topical skincare treatment rather than making claims that the facial replaces the skin's own growth factors or regenerates tissue.

The skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepared before exfoliation and treatment products are applied.

Gentle exfoliation
A light polishing or exfoliation step helps remove superficial build-up. Intensity is adjusted to your skin rather than following a fixed protocol.

BIOEFFECT EGF skincare & massage
Selected BIOEFFECT products are layered into the facial alongside a soothing facial massage and replenishing mask.
Step 5
Red LED light therapy
A period of red LED light provides a gentle, non-invasive treatment stage while you relax.

Finish & protect
We complete the facial with skincare selected for your skin and SPF where appropriate, followed by simple aftercare advice.
Red light therapy
Why include red LED?
Red LED is a gentle, non-invasive light treatment. Most clients experience it simply as a warm and relaxing part of the facial.
We use it here as a complementary step within the overall skin-conditioning treatment rather than as a substitute for medical or more intensive resurfacing procedures.

Immediately afterwards

Some clients choose the treatment monthly or seasonally as part of their ongoing facial routine. A course is optional rather than essential.

When we adapt or postpone
We can usually adapt for:
- Sensitive or reactive skin
- Redness-prone skin
- Dry or dehydrated skin
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding, with product adjustments where needed
- Clients wanting very little downtime
We may adapt or postpone with:
- Active infection or open wounds
- Significant active dermatitis or inflammatory flare
- Recent ablative or aggressive resurfacing treatment
- Known light sensitivity
- Photosensitising medication where LED is unsuitable

Keep things simple afterwards
Gentle skincare
Keep your routine straightforward for the first 24–48 hours and avoid unnecessary exfoliation.
Pause strong actives
Retinoids and stronger exfoliating acids are generally best avoided that evening, particularly if exfoliation was used during the facial.
SPF
Continue broad-spectrum sun protection and avoid unnecessary heat or steam immediately after treatment.

What is EGF?

It gives us a gentle, non-invasive light-therapy stage within the 90-minute facial and complements the treatment's overall calming and skin-conditioning approach.
Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
Often, yes. Exfoliation and product selection can be adjusted substantially. If the skin is actively inflamed or the barrier is compromised, we may recommend postponing or modifying the treatment.
Is there downtime?
Usually very little. Some temporary pinkness can occur, particularly after exfoliation, but this is not intended to be an aggressive resurfacing facial.
How often should I have it?
There is no requirement to follow a fixed schedule. Some clients book monthly, while others choose it seasonally or before an event. Courses of six and eight are available for clients who prefer regular appointments.
Should I choose this or TheraGlow?
Choose BIOEFFECT if you particularly want EGF skincare, red LED and a slower restorative facial. TheraGlow is better suited to clients wanting a more multi-modality, sculpting treatment.
