Post-surgical recovery

Medical Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Gentle, specialist MLD to reduce swelling, minimise fibrosis and improve comfort after procedures such as 360 liposuction, tummy tuck or BBL — delivered discreetly in our South Kensington clinic.

What is MLD and how does it help?

Manual lymphatic drainage is a light, rhythmic technique that encourages the movement of lymph — helping the body clear excess fluid and waste post-surgery. Benefits include:

  • Reducing swelling and fluid retention
  • Improving comfort and mobility
  • Helping limit fibrosis and scar-tissue formation
  • Supporting a smoother recovery journey

For scar tissue or range-of-motion concerns, see Post-operative Physiotherapy. Your therapist can advise on the best combination.

Why choose Santi

  • Experienced therapists trained in post-operative protocols
  • Private, calm treatment rooms in South Kensington
  • Option to combine with LED light therapy and gentle scar care
  • Personalised plans aligned with your procedure and surgeon advice

When to start

Most surgeons recommend starting MLD within 3–7 days post-op (once cleared and wounds are stable). We can liaise with your surgical team to align timing and approach.

Safety & suitability

We screen carefully before treatment. MLD may be postponed if you have an active infection, suspected DVT, uncontrolled cardiac/renal issues, or unhealed wounds. Please bring any post-op instructions and wear your compression garment if prescribed.

Post-surgical MLD — FAQs

When should I start lymphatic drainage?

Typically within 3–7 days once cleared by your surgeon and any drains are removed. Always follow your surgeon’s advice.

How many sessions will I need after 360 lipo?

Common plans are 2–3 sessions/week for 2–3 weeks, then weekly as swelling settles. Our 10-session package often covers the early phase.

Is it painful?

No. MLD uses very gentle, skin-stretching techniques and should not be painful.

MLD vs deep-tissue massage?

MLD is light and fluid-focused; deep-tissue targets muscle with firm pressure and is not advised early post-op.

Can I combine MLD with other therapies?

Yes — we commonly pair MLD with LED light therapy and, later, gentle scar care. We’ll guide safe timing.

What should I bring?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing, bring your compression garment if prescribed, and any surgeon notes or aftercare.
