Understanding the category

Profhilo vs skin boosters vs dermal fillers

These treatments overlap in conversation, but they are not interchangeable. The right category depends on whether the priority is diffuse skin quality, targeted texture or facial structure.

Profhilo

Skin-quality bioremodelling.

  • Hydration, elasticity and firmness
  • Diffuse treatment rather than contouring
  • Typical two-session protocol

Other skin boosters

Targeted skin-quality options.

  • Glow, fine lines and texture
  • Different HA and biostimulatory formulations
  • Protocols vary by product and concern

Dermal fillers

Structure, contour and volume.

  • Used selectively for lips, cheeks, chin and other areas
  • Targeted placement
  • Not a substitute for diffuse skin-quality treatment

Who may benefit?

When Profhilo may be worth considering

Dehydrated or dull skin

When the skin looks less fresh or luminous despite an appropriate skincare routine.

Early crepiness

Fine textural change on areas such as the face, neck, décolletage or hands.

Reduced elasticity

For gradual loss of skin bounce and firmness where adding volume is not the objective.

Natural-looking change

For people who want to improve the condition of the skin without altering facial shape.

Face, neck & hands

Profhilo can be considered for several areas following assessment of skin quality and anatomy.

Low-downtime planning

Treatment is relatively quick, although temporary bumps, redness, swelling or bruising can occur.

How treatment works

A simple two-stage starting protocol

1. Consultation

We assess your medical history, skin quality, treatment area and whether Profhilo — or another approach — is the better fit.

2. Treatment

Profhilo is placed using superficial injections. A treatment appointment is typically around 30 minutes.

3. Review the response

The usual starting protocol is two sessions 2–4 weeks apart. Further treatment or maintenance is based on individual response and goals.

Changes are gradual. Hydration and freshness may become noticeable over the first few weeks, while texture and elasticity can continue to evolve. Individual results vary.

Measure before and after

Skin Lab: hydration and elasticity are measurable

“Glow” is subjective. Hydration, elasticity and barrier function can be assessed more objectively. Where useful, Skin Lab provides a baseline before a skin-quality programme and a way to track change over time.

  • Hydration measurement
  • Elasticity and firmness assessment
  • Barrier / TEWL context
  • Standardised imaging
  • Useful when comparing treatment approaches over time

Suitability & safety

Profhilo is still an injectable medical-aesthetic treatment

Before treatment we consider:

  • Medical history and current medication
  • Previous injectable treatments
  • Skin condition and the proposed treatment area
  • Recent procedures in the same area
  • Your goals and whether another treatment is more appropriate

Treatment is generally avoided or postponed with:

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Active infection at the treatment site
  • Active inflammatory skin flare
  • Known relevant hypersensitivity
  • Other clinical factors identified during consultation

Temporary injection-site bumps, redness, tenderness, swelling or bruising can occur. Your clinician will discuss expected effects, relevant risks and alternatives before treatment.

Aftercare

Aftercare at a glance

First 24 hours

Avoid touching or massaging the treated area unless specifically advised otherwise.

Heat & exercise

Avoid intense exercise and sauna/steam exposure for around 24 hours.

Other treatments

Delay facials, peels and energy-based treatment in the area for around seven days unless your clinician advises differently.

Use gentle skincare and daily SPF. If you develop unusual or worsening swelling, significant pain, or concerning skin colour change, contact the clinic promptly.

Questions

Profhilo FAQs

Is Profhilo a dermal filler?

Profhilo contains hyaluronic acid, but its purpose is different from conventional volumising filler. It is used to improve diffuse skin hydration, elasticity and quality rather than to create facial contour or volume.

Does one session work?

Some people notice a change after the first treatment, but the usual starting protocol consists of two sessions, typically 2–4 weeks apart. Response varies between individuals.

Why are two sessions usually recommended?

The established starting protocol uses two treatments so that the second session builds on the response to the first. Your clinician can then assess whether and when maintenance is appropriate.

How quickly might I notice a change?

Hydration and freshness may become noticeable during the first few weeks. Changes in texture and elasticity can develop more gradually. Results and timelines vary.

How painful is Profhilo?

The injections can sting briefly. Most people tolerate treatment well, and comfort measures can be discussed where needed.

Is there downtime?

Small injection-site bumps, redness, swelling or bruising may occur and commonly settle over the following day or two, although individual recovery varies.

Can Profhilo be combined with Botox?

They address different concerns. Profhilo focuses on skin quality, while anti-wrinkle treatment targets selected muscle activity. A clinician can advise whether either or both are appropriate.

What age is best for Profhilo?

There is no single “best” age. Suitability depends more on skin condition, treatment goals, medical history and examination than on age alone.

What is skin hydration?

Hydration refers to water content within the skin. You can read more in our Skin Hydration guide.
