Elevating Skin Rejuvenation: Dermaroller, Microneedling & PRP — Better Together
Textural smoothing, refined pores, healthier glow. See how we sequence Dermaroller / Dermapen® microneedling with PRP to amplify collagen and recovery.
When to Combine (and When Not To)
- Great candidates: acne scarring (box/rolling), crepey texture, enlarged pores, photoageing, early laxity.
- Combine if you want: faster glow, enhanced hydration, improved downtime comfort, added collagen stimulus.
- Skip/Delay if: active acne flare, recent sunburn, pregnancy/breastfeeding (most protocols), isotretinoin in past 6–12 months (clinician-dependent), bleeding disorders, infection.
What Each Modality Does
Modality | How it works | Best for | Session time | Downtime |
---|---|---|---|---|
Dermaroller | Manual rolling creates micro-channels; stimulates collagen. | Texture, mild scars, overall tone. | 30–45 min | Redness 1–2 days |
Microneedling (Dermapen®) | Motorised pen; precise depth, even coverage. | Scars, pores, fine lines; targeted areas. | 30–60 min | Redness 1–3 days |
PRP | Platelet-rich plasma from your blood delivers growth factors. | Healing, glow, fine lines, under-eye quality. | 20–30 min (incl. draw) | Minimal; pinpoint marks |
Popular Combination Protocols
Protocol A — Microneedling + PRP (same day)
- Cleanse → Microneedling (controlled depth) → Topical/Injected PRP to enhance healing and collagen signalling.
- Great for acne scars, pores, fine lines. Typical plan: 3–6 sessions, 4–6 weeks apart.
Protocol B — Dermaroller series + periodic PRP
- Monthly Dermaroller × 3–4 with PRP at sessions 1 & 3 (or as advised). Budget-friendly, effective texture refresh.
Protocol C — Staged: PRP first, Microneedling later
- For sensitive/reactive skin: PRP only at visit 1 to prime; add gentle microneedling at visit 2–3.
Pre-Care (7-Day Checklist)
- Pause retinoids, acids, benzoyl peroxide 3–5 days before.
- No waxing/threading/depilatories for 7 days.
- Avoid sunbeds & strong sun; daily SPF 30–50.
- Hydrate; arrive make-up free. History of cold sores? Tell us (may need prophylaxis).
Recovery Timeline
- 0–24h: Red/pink “sunburned” look; use soothing serum, mineral SPF; no make-up.
- 1–3 days: Redness settles; light dryness/flaking possible. Avoid heat/exertion.
- 5–7 days: Back to normal/glowy; reintroduce actives gradually.
- 2–6 weeks: Collagen remodelling — results build with each session.
Safety Notes & Contraindications
Delay if active acne infection, recent sunburn, pregnancy/breastfeeding (most protocols), isotretinoin in past 6–12 months (clinician-dependent), bleeding disorders, keloid tendency, or skin infection. We’ll tailor safely or suggest alternatives.
FAQs
Is PRP necessary, or will microneedling alone work?
Microneedling works well alone. PRP can enhance glow, comfort and collagen signalling. We’ll advise based on your goals and budget.
Does it hurt?
With topical anaesthetic most clients rate discomfort 2-4/10; without numbing 4-6/10, depending on depth and area.
How many sessions will I need?
Typically 3–6 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart, then maintenance as needed.
Can I combine with peels or LED?
Yes — LED can be same day post-needling; peels and skin boosters are usually staged in separate visits for safety.
