Sebum / Oil Mapping

Measuring sebum to balance shine, breakouts, and barrier health

We quantify the amount of skin surface lipids at set facial points to understand your oil profile. It’s invaluable for acne-prone, combination, and dehydrated-but-oily skin types.

What we measure

Using a sebum-specific probe/film, we capture **sebum units (µg/cm²)** at multiple standardised facial sites (T-zone, cheeks, chin, peri-oral). The readings reveal true oil production and distribution—not just “looks shiny”.

How it works

After brief skin equilibration, we apply the sampling probe/film with gentle pressure for a set time. The device/software quantifies surface lipids. We average multiple sites and log environment conditions for context.

  • No occlusives/makeup before session
  • Ambient temperature/humidity noted

What your reading means

Higher values indicate more surface lipids; low readings can accompany dehydration or over-stripping. Your map informs cleanser choice, actives (e.g., retinoids, azelaic, salicylic), moisturiser weight, and in-clinic plans.
